Sherlock Stones LLC provides reliable underground detection services to homeowners, contractors, and pool builders across Tennessee. We use non-intrusive ground scanning equipment to accurately locate buried rocks, utility lines, and septic systems/field lines. For those who prefer a small hole in their yard for peace of mind, we can do that too. This ensures your project’s success from the ground up. We are the next step after 811!
Established in 1983, Tennessee 811 is the official one-call center for utility marking across the state. It acts as a communication link between those planning to dig and utility companies. When you call 811, the service coordinates with member utility providers to mark the locations of public underground utility lines, such as gas, electric, water, and telecommunications up to the edge of public property, to help prevent accidental damage during excavation.
As mentioned earlier, 811 only marks public lines and only up to the edge of public property. By scheduling your utility mapping with Sherlock Stones, you ensure that your construction process won’t run into any unknowns. We go beyond 811 by mapping the private utilities in the area were you would be digging on your property. We've all seen the videos of plumbers bragging about making tons of money from broken water or gas lines during additions or pool digging. Don’t be the fool—let us ensure the build starts right.
If this is the case, please schedule our service immediately! Not knowing where your septic tank and field lines will eventually end up being very dangerous for you and your family. These tanks need to be pumped every few years, and if they are not properly maintained, the sewage can back up into your home and cause major health risks for everyone involved.
As for the field lines, they are made of durable material, but they cannot support the weight of a vehicle or pool. They will be crushed, and then you'll be out thousands of $$$! Be smart and schedule an appointment with us to protect your home today.
When a pool installer inspects your property, they typically do not check for utilities, septic systems, or bedrock in the desired area. Instead, they may add extra costs to the pool project, hoping you don’t encounter rock or need to pay the cap for rock breaking if it's hit. Some companies charge up to $5,000 per day for rock breaking. By detecting rock before breaking ground, we can help open up more options for pool placement or alternative solutions, saving you thousands!
Sherlock Stones LLC was founded to meet the needs of pool consumers seeking affordable rock detection for semi-inground pools. The founder, Nicholas Krupla, has been working in the pool industry for several years and has inspected hundreds of yards for pool installations. With our experience, we can help with pool placement and keep costs down by ensuring minimal rock removal, identifying if retaining walls might be required, and highlighting other potential extra costs.
Yes, we provide a detailed map of the scanned area after the detection process. This map highlights key underground features, including utilities and septic systems giving you a clear visual of what's below the surface. Our goal is to ensure that you have all the information you need to make informed decisions before any excavation or construction begins, helping to avoid unexpected obstacles and additional costs.

By using advanced ground-scanning technology that employs electromagnetic waves, we can find most obstructions that would prevent a successful build or find a lost septic system. We also have the ability to drill a small 3" hole for the hard to find rock up to 10 feet. Once detected, we can safely uncover the utility as long as its on private property. Utility uncovering is quoted based on what we discover during the initial detection.
Either due to the make up of the soil or how wet it is can affect the results of a scan. Scans must be on relatively dry soil. You can elect to go with the drilling route from the start, though it is more expensive.
